You want a motor on your gate so that it opens with a remote and you never have to step out of the car in the rain. The first thing you ask is the simplest one: how much will it cost? Then three quotes arrive, and the numbers are so far apart that you wonder whether the vendors are even talking about the same job.
In this guide, Techno Gates explains the automatic gate cost in plain words: what you are actually paying for, what ranges look normal in India, what pushes the price up, and how to compare quotes fairly before you spend a rupee.
The Quick Answer
- For a home, the motor and control kit alone often falls in the range of roughly ₹20,000 to ₹70,000, depending on the gate weight it can move and the brand.
- A complete automatic gate (gate, fabrication, motor, installation) for a house commonly lands between about ₹50,000 and ₹1.5 lakh or more, depending on size, material and design.
- Heavy industrial gates, long openings and full access control cost more, and the quote should be built around the site.
- These are indicative ranges seen in Indian market listings in 2026. Your real price depends on your gate, your site and the brand you choose.
What Decides the Automatic Gate Cost
An automatic gate is not one product. It is a gate, a motor, a control board, safety parts and installation work, all joined together. Each part has its own price, and the total moves up or down with these six things.
Type of gate
A sliding gate, a swing gate and a cantilever gate each need a different mechanism. A sliding gate needs a rack and a track or guide. A swing gate needs arm or underground operators. A cantilever gate needs a strong frame that carries its own weight without a ground track, so it needs more steel and better engineering.
Gate weight and size
The heavier the gate, the stronger the motor must be. Market listings show that a motor rated for about 600 kg is priced much lower than one rated for 3,000 kg. A wide industrial gate is a very different job from a 12 ft home gate.
Gate material
Material affects the weight, and the weight decides the motor. A light aluminium gate is easy on the motor. A heavy MS or SS gate needs a stronger motor, a firmer track and a better foundation. If you are still deciding, our guide on MS vs SS vs aluminium gates explains how each material affects automation.
Motor brand and quality
Imported and well-known brands cost more than basic local kits. You pay for smoother movement, better support and spare parts that are easy to find. A cheap motor can become an expensive problem when it fails in the second year and nobody answers the phone.
Access control and add-ons
Remote controls, mobile app control, keypads, RFID, intercom and a boom barrier at the entry all add to the bill. You can start simple and add more later if the controller supports it.
Civil work and installation
A sliding gate needs a proper foundation and, in many cases, some floor cutting. Cable laying, power supply points and finishing work can add to the cost. Tell your vendor about any uneven ground or slope before the quote.
Automatic Gate Cost at a Glance
This table gives a rough idea. It is based on market listings and typical Indian ranges for 2026, and it is not a Techno Gates quotation.
| What you are buying | Indicative range | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Sliding gate motor kit (light, up to about 600 to 800 kg) | ₹18,000 to ₹35,000 | Suits most home gates, gate not included |
| Heavy-duty sliding gate motor (1,500 to 3,000 kg) | ₹45,000 to ₹70,000 or more | For factories, warehouses and big openings |
| Swing gate operator kit | ₹25,000 to ₹60,000 | Depends on arm type and gate leaf weight |
| Complete home automatic gate (gate plus motor plus fitting) | ₹50,000 to ₹1.5 lakh or more | Material, design and size make most of the difference |
| Industrial or custom automatic gate | Quoted after a site visit | Weight, width, usage and access control all matter |
Treat these as a guide for your budget. The only number that counts is the written quotation for your own site.
Sliding, Swing or Cantilever: Which Costs Less to Automate?
There is no cheapest type for every property. Space and use decide it.
- Sliding gate: best when you have a side wall and want a clean driveway. It needs a foundation and track, so civil work is part of the cost
- Swing gate: often the simplest for a normal home entrance, if the gate has room to open inward or outward. The operators are lighter, and the setup is simpler
- Cantilever gate: the common choice for factories and uneven ground, because it has no ground track. It costs more in steel and design work

Running Costs and Hidden Costs People Forget
The purchase price is only part of the story. Before you sign, ask about these.
- Power backup: a battery or UPS keeps the gate working in a power cut. Without it, you need a manual release
- Safety devices: photocells, safety edges and a warning lamp protect people, children and vehicles. They should never be skipped to save money
- Electricity: a home gate motor uses very little power, so the monthly bill barely changes
- Servicing: rollers, gears and tracks need checking once or twice a year
- Remote and spare parts: extra remotes and replacement boards should be easy to buy later
- Warranty: ask what it covers, for how long, and who comes to your site
Can You Automate an Existing Gate?
Sometimes, yes. If the gate is straight, well balanced and built from strong sections, a motor can be added to it. If it is warped, too heavy or hangs badly on its hinges, the motor will fail early, and it is cheaper to repair or rebuild the gate first.
A good fabricator will check the gate before quoting for a motor. If someone quotes you a motor over the phone without seeing the gate, be careful.
Five Mistakes to Avoid
- Buying the motor before the gate. The gate weight and design should decide the motor, never the other way round
- Choosing the lowest quote without a spec. Two quotes are only comparable when they list the same motor capacity, brand, safety parts and warranty
- Skipping safety sensors. A moving gate can hurt someone, and sensors cost very little compared with an accident
- Forgetting power backup. Power cuts happen, and a locked gate at midnight is not a good surprise
- Ignoring after-sales support. A motor is a machine. It needs a team that will pick up the call when it needs attention
How to Compare Two Automatic Gate Quotes
Put both quotes side by side and check each line.
- Motor brand, model and the maximum gate weight it can handle
- Gate material, section sizes and finish
- Number of remotes, and whether mobile control is included
- Safety sensors, warning lamp and manual release
- Foundation, track and cabling work
- Installation, testing and handover
- Warranty period and what it covers
If a quote does not mention these, ask. A clear quote usually comes from a vendor who has done the job many times.

Why Talk to Techno Gates
Techno Gates is an Automatic Gate Manufacturer in Faridabad with over 10 years of fabrication experience. We build the gate and automate it, so one team looks after the frame, the motor and the controls. That avoids the usual blame game between the person who made the gate and the person who fitted the motor.
We visit your site first, check the opening, the slope and the power point, and then send a detailed written quotation with no hidden costs. Standard home gates are usually installed within 3 to 7 days, and larger projects take 2 to 4 weeks. You can read about how we work on our fabrication company in Faridabad page, or see our full range on the Techno Gates home page.
